Reduce the amount of energy you use. There are various ways you can go about doing this. For example, make sure to flip off the lights when an office or room is not in use, or when the building closes for the evening. Make sure that computers are on power-saving mode, and that they get turned off at the end of each workday. Plus, turn the temperature on the air conditioner up in the summer and the down on the heat in the winter. The less energy you use, the more money you’re going to save.
2. Get Rid of the Office PhoneYou need to make sure that you’re able to communicate with employees, however if your employees have both a company-issued mobile phone and a landline, it’s going to get expensive. On top of this, if employees are making calls outside the country, it could cost you a pretty penny. Instead, cut back to cell phones for everyone. With an mdm, or mobile device management, program you can keep track of all the phones and devices used in your company. This allows your employees to bring their own devices while your company is able to maintain data security.
3. Carefully Examine Travel ExpensesDo you or your employees take a lot of business trips? Making sure that you do what you can to cut the travel costs is crucial. For many companies, travel costs are one of the biggest expenses. Cut out as many business trips as possible. On the trips that you or your employees take, cut costs where you can, including finding cheaper flights, less expensive hotels, and place a cap on food expenses. You’ll be amazed at the amount of money that you'll save each year on travel costs.

Paper has a time and a place, but most things in the office can be done without it today. Instead of printing all the memos that go out to employees, email them or send them through instant messenger. Do reports on PowerPoint or another program online, instead of printing them out for colleagues. When you cut paper out of the company budget, you’re also reducing the ink cost, as well as new parts, and repairs to the printer.
5. Cross Train EmployeesInstead of hiring new employees to fill roles, cross train your current employees, so they can step into the vacant role, and the duties can be divided among existing staff. Make sure to train everyone in at least two departments or roles. This will help you by ensuring you don’t need to hire as many people.
Another perk is that this way, when someone is out sick, you’ll be able to pull someone from one of the other departments who has been trained properly to help.
6. Move to a Smaller OfficeIf you need to cut costs, move to a smaller office. If it seems like moving to a smaller office is not possible with the number of employees you have and equipment you own, think about consolidating equipment. Change the way employ workstations are laid out to see if you can eliminate some furniture and fit into a smaller space.
This can save you a significant amount of money each month. Make sure you don’t get an office that is too small, or lock yourself into a contract that will restrict your company’s future growth. Look at different areas, as well, so that you can make sure you have the cheapest price available for your office building.
7. Allow Employees to Work From HomeIf you’re really interested in cutting costs as much as possible, one of the best things you can do is let your employees work from home. This helps many employees, because it will allow them to spend more time at home with their children. It also helps you, as you don’t have to worry about energy costs, wear and tear on office equipment, and other concerns. You’ll need to decide before hand if you’re providing equipment such as the computers the employees will use, or if you’ll require them to have their own equipment.
There are many ways a business can effectively cut costs. With so many options, it’s easy to find a path that works well for you and your company. Not everything will work for every business, but once you make your changes, you’ll love how much money you save each month.
