When my Daughter Emma graduated from University in 2011, my wife Valerie and I wanted to mark the occasion by buying a memorable gift that she would always have to remember the occasion with. The decision for us was a no brainer, we decided to have a necklace customised and made by local Naas businesswoman Niamh Spain. Valerie had been given a gift made by Niamh by our children a year or so before so we were already familiar with Niamh’s work.
Niamh graduated from the National College of Art and Design in 2008 and opened her own jewellery design business in October 2010. In that short space of time Niamh has built up a solid reputation in limited edition and bespoke commission jewellery business. Her limited edition jewellery is available from her own online shop and from online retailer’s such as coldlilies and Rise Creatives and in the more traditional retailers such as Designyard in Dublin and Ardmore Pottery in Waterford.
Niamh works very closely with her customers designing each piece so that it incorporates the personality and aesthetic of each client into the finished piece. She combines her unique design skills with a business acumen rarely seen for someone so young. Niamh talents were recognised as early as 2006 when she featured on RTE’s “Nationwide” as one of Irelands up and coming designers and she has picked up some accolades on the way including being chosen and commissioned to design 100 pendants for the breast cancer support charity “Reach for Recovery “ in January 2011.
Niamh is probably too modest to put herself forward for a Business Achievers award so when myself and Geraldine O Donoghue of Ulster Bank met with Niamh recently and spoke to her about Business Women Can , we were so impressed we decided to nominate her in the” women led business” category. We firmly believe that Niamh is a great example to all existing and potential young entrepreneurs, her passion for her business really shines through and we are certain we will be hearing a lot more about Niamh and her creations in the coming years.
Visit Niamh’s website www.niamhspain.com and her Facebook page http://tinyurl.com/niamhspain. We guarantee you will be equally impressed as we were and who knows you may even buy one of her limited edition pieces- I guarantee you will be very impressed with the prices.
