With the Annual Conference knocking on the door, Carlow Macra are full steam ahead. With the support of Dawn Meats and Ulster Bank, main sponsors, the weekend has a packed agenda with delegates arriving Friday evening, the 25th October, greeted in the Mount Wolseley hotel with a major Carlow welcome! The conference will be officially opened by Minister for Agriculture, Simon Coveney with the Irish Farmers Journal Know Your Ag quiz taking centre stage on Friday night.
With a balance of fun and business, we have the Agricultural Conference on Saturday hosted in the Seven Oaks hotel after the farm walks on Saturday morning. The conference will commence after lunch at 2pm. The theme of the conference is “New Cap New Era” with speaker,s MEP Mairead McGuinness, Michael Brady, President of the Agricultural Consultants Association, and Alan Renwick, UCD.
We are very excited about the conference which deals with a very important topic and gives us a platform, as young farmers, to discuss the issue of CAP and young farmers.
On Sunday, the Bord Bia stockjudging competitions take place in Tullow Market where our young farmers show their skills at assessing livestock.
The line up of music for the weekend entertainment is Friday night, Bog the Donkey and DJ Philly till late, while Saturday night we will be bobbing away to Transmitter and a Beat 102 103 DJ, Sunday we will broadcasting live from the weekend with Beat 102 103, Ray Coakley’s Old School Sunday show from 12 to 3pm, while we put 10 Macra members through their paces in a fun packed competition to be awarded the title of Mr & Ms Rally 2013. We are also delighted to be hosting the final weigh-in of the Macra Feirme Bodies. This is all taking place from 3 to 5 pm in the hotel.
We then slip into something formal, the glad rags are put on and the hair put up, as we gather for the Gala Banquet with music afterwards by The Lols and a Beat 102 103 DJ till late into early hours of Monday morning. I am delighted for Carlow Macra as we have put together a weekend packed full of activity for everyone in Macra na Feirme. We look forward to hosting the 350 delegates, the largest annual conference in recent years. Don’t forget the doors are open all weekend for anyone young and old who wishes to attend the weekend in the Mount Wolseley Hotel.
