Teagasc Farm Walk

Despite the bad weather conditions, a big crowd turned out for the Teagasc farm walk in Johnstown Castle, Co.Wexford on Wednesday 10th October. Ailish Byrne and Deirdre O'Shea (Ulster Bank Agri. Team) were among those who attended. The event focused on 'Early Maturing Dairy Calf to Beef Trial'. This is an important area as these type of farming systems will become more prevalent from 2015 onwards due to the abolition of milk quotas.

Among speakers on the day were Padraig French, Robert Prendiville, Paul Crosson, Michael O'Donovan and Ríona Sayers. Topics covered included beef production from the dairy herd, financial returns from dairy calf to beef systems, grass management for early maturing beef and rearing healthy stock.
