Start-up Story: Marry Me Ireland

After fifteen years of being together, and a beautiful daughter, I had no intention of getting married. Marriage was to me an institution, archaic, outdated and not relevant to me. So when I was proposed to, on bended knee, in front of all our friends at a Christmas party - I felt myself nodding, but inside felt torn.

Weddings represented the frou-frou, the formulaic, and I was anything but. So we decided to put together a list of everything we didnt like about weddings. The church, the boring ceremony, the cake, white dresses, the first dance.. the list went on.

By the time the day arrived, we had enlisted the help of all our poor but creative friends, and with soul and imagination, and it was more a joyous intimate festival than a wedding. Our ceremony was conducted by an actor friend, in his Game of Thrones costume, complete with kilt and sword. He performed a unique and touching ceremony with a speech from the Twelfth Night, the wedding speech from the Princess Bride and declared us man and wife with his sword. It was so different that people started to ask us about how we had put it together, and as the word spead, we saw a business opportunity.

Marry Me Ireland

We have started a company called Marry Me Ireland, Ireland' s first and only professional celebrant training organisation, and we offer bespoke weddings as well as national celebrant training modules and mentorship. This is a growth market as Ireland grows more secular, and we are equality based, offering celebrants from all walks of life, nationalities, and are multi-lingual, offering ceremonies that are mixed faith, religious, semi religious and non religious. We conduct weddings, civil partnerships, vow renewals and naming ceremonies.

We offer all types of weddings, from the urban pop up wedding in unusual venues, to beach/forest ceremnoies and the more traditional. We are delighted to help people realise their dreams!
