Start-up Story: Inspire Promotional Products

Inspire Promotional Products help companies and individuals, by providing personalised promotional products, branded with their logo or message that can help enhance their own brand in the market place. Branded products can be anything from; Keyrings, pens, Jotters, Diaries, Calendars, t-shirts, fleeces, jackets, bags, memory sticks and lots lots more. Essentially anything that can be branded, we can brand!

The problem can be that some companies are trying to find the right product at the right price to suit their particular event. With my years of experience in the promotional product area, I can help solve this concern for them. I do this by providing ideas lists, quotations, images and logistics.

Why we started

2 Years ago while already working in the promotional products sector, an opportunity presented itself to me, where I could set up and run my own business. Prior to setting up my own business, at the time I was being asked to work commission only, on new business development, target driven - no pay if no target achieved, part time but working in own hours if needed and a low percentage of profits. With these discussions in mind with the previous company, I decided that I could do this for myself.

I have always worked in the customer service and sales arena throughout my career and am very passionate about good customer service. I don't class myself as a cut throat sales person, its more about good customer service, doing what I say I am going to do, good pricing and generally treating people with the respect that I would like to receive myself. I take pride in knowing I have responded well to a customer and that I have been able to help them during our business discussions.

Where do we see it going

My business has grown greatly during my second year which I am very happy about. I am excited to see where I can take my business to, both in terms of financial growth and also team building. If my business keeps growing as it has this year against last year, I will be looking forward to being able to take on a new team member in 12 months time.

What is happening or needs to happen for it to grow?

Continued financial growth needs to continue happening at the rate it currently is. I will also need to introduce more new customers and develop my existing ones into repeat business.

What we have learned

I can tend to take things to heart / personally in certain situations which is ok in small doses but I do need to toughen up a little too when it comes to business. From a financial point of view, I have become more aware of not being able to trust everybody, especially when it comes to payments! There are some people out there who are in the business of not paying for goods or services that they have ordered. I am becoming tougher in terms of credit terms etc.

Tips for other businesspeople starting out

Be Honest Provide a good customer service. Provide achievable and good price points. Mistakes will happen, its how we handle them with our customers that could change the impact. Enjoy your business.
