Spotlight; an eye for online potential

Clodagh McGovern established her state-of-the-art Optician’s in Westport, County Mayo in 2005.  A native of the area, Clodagh’s business grew steadily throughout the noughties and she received much praise for her stylish, customer-centric practice – winning several awards along the way.

It was the realisation of online potential that focused Clodagh’s attention on her next business venture in 2009, as she noticed more and more retailers pursuing ecommerce sites to take their business to the next level.  “Over time, spectacles have taken on a whole new dimension for wearers… for starters, they’ve stopped looking at them as an unfortunate necessity, and more of a fashion accessory which can be as trend-conscious as anything else you wear”.

Clodagh launched in 2009, just as the recession began to show its true colours… “the key to innovation in any business – regardless of your offering – is looking at new ways to do business, or offer your product / service.  I spotted the online trend, as well as new fashion trends, and went for it”.  Identifying the various target audiences available globally to Clodagh, she set about designing a range of frames, which offered up-to-the-minute style combined with affordability.

“I wanted to model my online business on those great High Street fashion houses we all know and love – they offer classy, stylish items which are straight off the catwalk but without the price-tag to match”.  Alongside Clodagh’s own-designed range, she offers the main designer brands at discounted prices – another benefit of online retailing.

Since 2009, has developed a significant following, at home and abroad, and the site’s products are regularly featured in style and fashion publications.   With success, brings new potential, and the enhanced site now offers a virtual try-on service – giving the customer all the benefits of fitting their glasses on before purchasing them.  “Our ultimate aim is to make online purchasing of spectacles as simple for customers as it is for them to buy any other fashion item! We’re 100% committed to customer satisfaction, and offer a try-on and return, money-back guarantee within 10-days if the customer is not happy with their order”.

Given ClaimTheFrame’s success to date – are there any further plans for expansion? “Our main objective continues to be the promotion of online as a real shopping experience for spectacle-wearers… we’re attracting customers from the USA, and across Europe, so we continue to work more and more on developing the customer base.  We’re also committed to customer experience, and continue to tweak the site to look for new ways of making the retail experience even better”.
