Profile - Archipelago

John Egan and Steven Menton are shortlisted for the 2013 David Manley Awards for 'Archipelago' - which they set up in 2010.  They wanted to create an Irish community of young entrepreneurs working to reduce youth unemployment and emigration in Ireland by making enterprise a viable career choice.   They do this through events, think tanks, courses and programmes.

The goal of their “Archie Talks”, which take place monthly, is to put a face and a story on the generation of academically accomplished, fiscally impoverished business owners who have chosen not to emigrate as a consequence of economic malaise.  Attendees pay what they want at the door.

The renowned “Archie Boost” sees one entrepreneur at each Archie Talk win the ‘gate receipts’ – usually about €3,000 plus a communications clinic, account workshop and more.

John is the CEO of Archipelago, a partner at Red Thread Intelligence, sits on University College Dublin's InnovationAcademyboard of studies and is a Dublin curator of the World Economic Forum Young Global Shapers.  CFO Steven is a Chartered Accountant and an Irish ambassador to ICUE (The International Consortium of University Entrepreneurs) - the world’s largest network of young entrepreneurs.  Archipelago was recently the winner of the European wide Ben & Jerrys and Ashoka Join Our Core Competition for Social enterprise.
