From the cosy and comfortable surrounds of the Punchestown Event Centre, attendees at this year's Irish Farmers Journal Dairy Day were spoilt for choice in terms of the wide array of exhibitors, speakers and contributors on the day. The persistent and often heavy rain did not dampen the spirits of exhibitors and visitors, with lively discussion and insight. There was plenty of food for thought at Dairy Day 2018.

What was the event?

Dairy Day 2018 at Punchestown

What was the format of the event?

There were exhibitors with stands, presentations, in depth interviews and technological displays.

With the Beyond the Parlour Sessions, Calf Shed Talks, Skills Hub and the extensive list of exhibitors present throughout the day, Dairy Day 2018 offered learnings for all interested and associated with the dairy sector.

Who was the event for?

Anyone with an interest in dairy – farmers thinking of getting into dairying, farmers already in dairying and looking for ways to improve/make their farms more efficient, dairy farmers thinking of expanding, intermediaries with an interest in dairy farming and stakeholders in the dairy industry.

Tell us your thoughts on the event

From labour challenges to the strength of international markets, product value-add to environmental concerns, there was plenty of lively discussion and interactive engagement with commentators offering their insights.

Contributors included leading dairy farmers, advisors, industry representatives and government agencies, there was plenty of food for thought as we reflect on 2018.

For many, 2018 was a challenging year with a long winter, late almost absent spring and a long prolonged summer drought. As farmers have been challenged with the associated costs, labour demands and key outcomes from the year, Ulster Bank looks forward to supporting both new and existing farm customers into the future.

When will the next Dairy Day take place?

This is an annual event so the next one is in 2019, date to be confirmed.
