North Cork Hosts First Women in Business Evening

North Cork hosted their first women in Business networking evening in Mallow on Thursday, 26th September at the GAA Pavillion. The event was attended by business women from Mitchelstown, Kanturk, Mallow, Fermoy and Millstreet.

Ulster Bank’s Business Women Can programme was delighted to partner with the NCEB on the night and we gave an insight to the attendees of what supports are available through this programme.

Elevator Pitch

The evening kicked off with each attendee standing up and describing their business succinctly in a thirty second pitch. To some this was a very familiar practice, to others it was a little bit more challenging. However, everyone was in agreement at the end of this opening session that a well practiced, well rehearsed elevator pitch is a really important tool when doing Business. It is your chance to leave a lasting impression of what you do and why it is different to others in the Market place.

Issues faced by Women in Business

Roundtable discussions took place on the matter of issues facing women in business. There were many themes discussed such as isolation when working from home, rates, revenue, bank charges. Others discussed the need to regulate certain industries and sectors and there were also contributions around maximising PR and marketing to gain a competitive advantage. There was also an underlying theme to the evening of ‘Support and Buy Irish’ where at all possible.

Network the Room

A fun and engaging networking session took place which ensured that each one of the attendees got to meet and speak with each other on a one to one basis. It was high tempo, and at times chaotic session, but it certainly succeeded in its goal to get everybody engaged, energised and all participants will have walked away with new, local business contacts.

As mentioned at the outset, this was the first of its kind for North Cork Enterprise Board and the plan is to have part two before Christmas… the space!
