News from Dogpatch Labs 08/09/2018

For me a key piece of news in recent weeks is how resident Teckro raised $10M from investors including Bill Maris, founder and first CEO of Google Ventures (considered one of the hottest venture funds in Silicon Valley under his leadership). Teckro CEO Gary is a great guy, proven entrepreneur, quickly assembling a talented team to tackle a big problem with smart tech. One of the hottest emerging startups in Ireland in my opinion!

The community continues to grow with talented members and this month we asked Brian Norton fintech entrepreneur (& hotdesker!) to share his story at First Fridays For Startups about raising €100M+ for his Irish startup. It was great to get a shot of his American style hustle and passion and to learn how he brought that the fundraising table. Great talk, thanks Brian.

Continuing on the fintech theme, Ulster Bank just became the first bank in Ireland to launch an open API. It’s proof they are serious about collaborating and innovating with startups to enable new apps for their customers. Kudos to the innovation team! Excited to see what comes next.

In a rapid 'get to know you' session, 20 startups delivered 90 second pitches to the Unilever Foundry team this week. From speaking with them after, I know they were genuinely impressed with the quality the startups who came and are actively thinking the possibility of collaborations / pilots. More to come.

Lastly I wanted to highlight two opportunities that I’ve heard founders have really good things to say about ESB’s Spark of Genius and BlackBox Connect. Check them out!
As always, feel free to reply directly to this email if you want to chat to me.
