About Mykidstime was founded originally as a Galway listings website for parents and has grown over the past 10 years to become one of the most trusted online brands with a global audience. They now have a large community of parents on our website, mailing list, social media and have just introduced an online magazine for Mums, a new content app and an online community platform where they can run data and insights projects easily and quickly. They help businesses and brands who want to market to parents do that through our digital channels.

Jill and Michelle

Launched in 2007 by Jill Holtz and Michelle Davitt. Neither of them had web skills or had run a business before, so they are atypical entrepreneurs but were looking for something to do that would be flexible, home-based, useful to other parents and use technology to facilitate that.

Happy birthday

In ten years they have grown from a small local website into a global audience and strong parenting brand. They just celebrated their 10th birthday. It wasn't always plain sailing. Jill Holtz explains"We had a supplier that caused us a huge technical setback a few years ago with a corresponding almost disastrous data issue at the time. There was a huge amount of learning from that situation though so I don't regret it happening, it made us more resilient".

The best business tip you've ever received?

Watch the cash flow.

Find yourself some other business owners to meet regularly or join a business group where you can have a safe place to talk about the challenges and learn from others. It's a lonely road starting a business and your family and friends get very sick of you talking about your business all the time, so you need a space where you can talk to other business owners facing the same challenges as you!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

"On the beach on a tropical island" is what I used to say. Now I'm aiming for 3 things:

  • to continue to learn and innovate both myself and my business
  • to continue to be happy with the quality of work that I create
  • to have successfully launched my two kids in their lives. Those 3 things will make me happy.

What does business achievement mean to you?

To me business achievement used to mean making millions in turnover, now I recognise there are other measures of success - how your customers relate to you and return to you, how your audience connects with you, how you grow and develop your staff, how you grow and scale your business. So it's actually a multi-faceted thing.
