Meet the neighbours, IDA and Ulster Bank

The 2nd Ulster Bank/IDA "Meet Your Neighbours" Networking Event took place in George’s Quay last week. The event was a huge success, driven by the strong attendance of c. 100 people, fantastic food and gorgeous weather. This is an IDA initiative, which Ulster Bank was delighted to host on one of the warmest days of the year so far.

The IDA has successfully supported a large number of companies with their expansion into Ireland and many of these companies are based in Dublin, particularly around the Docklands Area. This event gave these companies an opportunity to get to know each other and network, in an informal setting with a BBQ and some music. It was also an opportunity for the companies to promote what their business is about and share ideas., Nitro, Social Talent, Talente

There was real positivity in the room with companies including, Nitro, Social Talent, The Digital Hub and Talente were represented on the night, many of whom were wearing their company t-shirts with pride.

At the outset, Stephen Masterson welcomed everyone and introduced his Foreign Direct Investment Team within Corporate and Institutional Banking - Lisa Taggart, Yvonne Kennedy and Darren Brennan. Stephen highlighted the fantastic work the IDA does in promoting Ireland as a place to do business as well as supporting companies as they develop their business in Ireland. Barry O'Dowd (Head of the Emerging Business Division in the IDA) then took over as MC for the evening. Barry's Emerging Business team were also in attendance on the night including Aimee Williams, Kathleen Bohan, Michelle O’Neill, Patrick Gaule and Kevin Carroll.

Companies speak about success after moving to Ireland

Three companies gave a brief overview of their business; John Hughes spoke for SNP Communications (3 months in Ireland), Gina Arcari spoke for Dita Eyewear (4 years in Ireland) and Kerrie Power spoke for Nordeus (1 year in Ireland). Each of the business representatives then took some questions from the floor. They highlighted what has driven their market success to date and also, what attracted their companies to Ireland. All had very interesting and exciting stories to tell, and each business clearly has a successful future ahead.

Rugby and BBQ

Later on, there was a raffle for some rugby tickets for the Ireland Autumn Internationals, which attracted plenty of interest. For the rest of the evening, everyone enjoyed the BBQ, sun and great view from the Georges Quay balcony.

Ulster Bank was delighted to work alongside the IDA to successfully unite Dublin's global business community. One interesting fact from the night was that the 6 Nordeus attendees were each from a different country. This really summed up the theme of the night - bringing international businesses together to "Meet Their Neighbours".
