Facebook Graph Search to benefit businesses

As the Facebook phenomenon continues, it recently solidified its position as the leading social media source for businesses with the announcement of their new Graph Search.

Facebook Graph Search extends the scope of the site’s existing search functionalities, so that it is now capable of returning results for what other people do, think, like and recommend.   Identifying products and services which have been endorsed by friends has been made easier by asking questions such as “Which Italian restaurants in Cork do friends of my friends like?” or “An electrician my friends recommend”.

This enhanced search facility will derive a wider range of results and thus provide instant and valuable recommendations. Therefore, it is important that businesses recognise the potential which they could extract from this new marketing channel. Through Facebook Graph Search, an opportunity exists to convert endorsements into actual sales, however, in order to maximise the benefit which can be achieved, it is imperative that businesses have an active presence on Facebook.

It is often argued that a company Facebook page is almost as important as a website, yet in spite of this, many businesses either do not have any presence on the social media site or their usage is so infrequent that they fail to take advantage of this lucrative marketing tool.  Therefore, a proactive approach is required by the business to increase their Facebook presence and ensure that they rank on the new Graph Search and ultimately, maximise their revenue generating potential.
