Call For Applicants For Next ACORNS Programme

The call is out for applicants for the next ACORNS programme, we asked Paula Fitzsimmons, Director, ACORNS to tell us all about it:

1. What is Acorns?

ACORNS (Accelerating the Creation of Rural Nascent Start-ups) is an entrepreneurship development initiative for early stage female entrepreneurs living in rural Ireland. It is supported by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and is designed at supporting these entrepreneurs develop new businesses. 

The initiative is based on peer support and collaborative learning and focussed on interactive round table sessions facilitated by female Lead Entrepreneurs who have themselves successfully started and grown businesses in rural Ireland. 

Now in its fourth year, over 150 female entrepreneurs have taken part in ACORNS to date. The call is now open for applicants to join the latest cycle. 

2. Who is it for?

ACORNS is for early stage female entrepreneurs living in rural Ireland who have recently started a business or have a well-developed business idea and are ready to take it to the next stage. They are being encouraged to register their interest in receiving an application form. There is no charge for successful applicants.

3. What commitment is involved?

The programme runs over a period of six months from October 2019 to April 2020.  It starts with a residential Development Forum in October.  Participants will then meet with their ACORNS Lead Entrepreneur in groups of eight on four occasions between November and March. These sessions will last for about three to four hours. The programme concludes with a second residential Development Forum in April 2019.

4. Any advice for applicants?

Demand for places on ACORNS is expected to be high and those who are interested in taking part are urged to register their interest and apply for a place as quickly as possible. 

5. Where can people apply?

Interested applicants should register their interest on www.acorns.ie and an application form will be sent to them. The closing date for receipt of completed applications is Friday 20 September 2019.
