Business Women Can Networking Event on International Men’s Day

The Business Women Can Dublin Ambassadors were delighted to continue its series of ‘Inspiring Your Success’ events by hosting a networking breakfast on Wednesday 19 November 2014 in the Kildare Street and University Club. The event which brought together both female and male business leaders and entrepreneurs was centred on the theme of ‘Building Your Leadership Profile’.

The event featured Senator Catherine Noone as the key note speaker; Senator Noone was elected to the Seanad in 2011 and is currently Fine Gael’s Seanad spokesperson on European Affairs. Senator Noone has witnessed many of the challenges facing businesses and women in business through her experience in the Seanad and her successful career as a solicitor. Other speakers on the panel were Dr. Michelle Cullen, a Managing Director from Accenture and Paula Brady, Business Manager in Ulster Bank and FIFA International Referee.

Numerous surveys have concluded that confidence is a significant barrier to success for women in business. This evidence was also supported by the panel whose view was that women often have a tendency to focus on their weaknesses and disregard their strengths, sometimes often even holdings themselves back for promotion. Michelle Cullen view was that we need to start with an independent assessment of ourselves focusing on our strengths and how we can use these to succeed. The consensus view of the panel was that boards of all companies need to create an environment which does not create a barrier to women’s full participation at the highest management levels.

Speaking at the event Senator Catherine Noone, said:

“We should not underestimate the value of these types of events where peers can share their experiences, good and bad, and insights into how they have been successful in their own businesses. Practical advice on how to overcome some of the challenges businesses can face is invaluable. We all need to work together and support each other to continue growing our economy and driving job creation.”

The Banks hugely successful Business Women Can programme is a specially designed Ulster Bank programme to allow business women share stories of success and support. The MC of the event, Jennifer Hughes, Head of Corporate Planning Service and Delivery, Ulster Bank said:

“We are delighted to support events like this where successful and dynamic business women can share their experiences and insights. Ulster Bank is a proud supporter of female entrepreneurship and we are always ready to support all businesses right across Ireland. We have €1.2billion available to lend to new and existing business customers to support their growth plans in 2014.”

Business Women Can hopes to continue its successful series of ‘Inspiring Success’ events into 2015.
