Give us the background to your business

I set up the company EventEase in the midst of the crash in 2012. The idea was to use the various skills I’d learnt over the last 25 years as a promoters rep / crew boss and promoter to help other promoters run their events easier - hence the name! We stared out initially supplying box office management and entrance management teams and then branched out into providing ticket Scanning services for large events and festivals. We’ve worked with most of the major festivals nationwide at some stage inc Bloom, Dublin Comic Con, Body and Soul, Forbidden Fruit, etc.

We have grown organically and luckily have a very loyal and professional team. Over the last 3/4 years we have moved our business model to predominantly supplying event credentials (e.g. security wristbands / lanyards / event passes etc) to promoters, venues and events nationwide. To the extent that we’d be the main supplier in Ireland at present. Through a lot of research, we have a number worldwide manufacturing partners, who we work with closely to ensure quality and value for all concerned.

We have recently moved into supplying promotional and workwear to our clients with all screen print / embroidery done here in Dublin which is going really well.

The best business tip you've ever received?

It was actually from my accountant Kieran Desmond who told me when we started the business that we’d encounter the corridor effect - this is where when you start a business it’s like walking down a corridor. As you walk along and the business grows, different doors will open (and close!) and with it different opportunities will arise. And your original business model could completely change. Never a truer word when you consider how our business has changed.

Any advice for other business owners?

Watch the finances from day one + pay your bills on time!
Take care of your staff team and treat them with the dignity and respect they deserve- same goes for every Client.
Both of the above are the people keeping a roof over your head - remember that!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully I will have expanded the business and created a business model which gives me time to both pay the bills and enjoy life.

What does business achievement mean to you?

It means keeping clients long term and for new clients coming to you based on word of mouth. My business is built on reputation and value and we like to help our clients have a less stressful event by using our services and products. It means a lot for me, when people say thanks to myself and the team when we are involved with their event.

Oh and setting up the company with only €1000 to my name and getting turnover of €1,000,000 (even if it was over 4-5 years!).

Believe in yourself - because it can be done!!
