Burren Smokehouse is a #businessachiever

burren-2

The Burren Smokehouse is an Irish family-run producer of Smoked Irish fish. The company is established in 1989 and located on Kincora Road, LisdoonvarnaCounty Clare. It was set up by Peter and Birgitta Curtin.

Ongoing diversification

The Burren Smokehouse started with the smoking and curing of Irish Organic Salmon. Later they branched out into mackereltrout and eel. The home-brewed beer Burren Brewery in the Roadside Tavern pub is the latest addition. The Burren Black Stout, Burren Red Ale and Burren Gold Lager beer are only available direct from source when you visit.

It is a highly acclaimed, award winning traditional smokehouse, firmly based on the slow food movement, with a focus on the best ingredients, creating the quality it is known for

The company also runs a visitor centre, what has made it one of the bigger tourist attractions in County Clare.

The secret to success

We asked Birgitta what made the Burren Smoke House so successful. It is very simple and takes a leaf out of “Lovability” https://www.bookbuzz.biz/love-is-all-you-need/

Focus on the best ingredients, focus on quality, take a niche approach, deliver direct and communicate with your clients. Mix that with storytelling and authenticity and you have the recipe for success.

Export

From day one, the Burren Smokehouse has exported and they are now exporting all over the world, but are particularly popular in Germany, France and the USA.

Brigitta’s tips

  1. To be successful in export, you need to understand your market, both culturally and linguistically. Communicate in the language of your customers.
  2. Stay in touch on a regular basis and make the clients part of the community
  3. Go direct
  4. Dream your dream and work hard
