7 Tips for a successful campaign with an Influencer

Influencers are people who are active on various social media platforms such as Facebook or blogs. True influencers have a certain impact on their followers and, when chosen carefully, can boost your brand’s image and visibility in the market.

Contrary to the past, companies nowadays now employ the help of influencers more often than they do celebrities. One of the reasons why is because compared to people of interest who gain their followers through fame, influencers gain their following by deliberately posting content that a certain audience or field is interested in.

Here are 7 tips to ensure a successful campaign with an influencer:

1. Contact influencers that will be interested/related to you

Relevance is key when selecting an influencer. Selecting an influencer who is interested in your field will make them more likely to collaborate with you and ensure maximum outreach. The influencer’s outreach to their own followers will be more natural and effective if the product they talk about is something that they would be interested with in the first place.

2. Make sure your influencers actually have influence

Before paying someone to promote your brand/product, ask for their statistics. A popular person with a high number of followers and likes on social media isn’t necessarily influential. Nowadays it’s even possible to buy followers but remember: influence is something that cannot be bought. Contacting an influencer with a decent amount of followers but high percentage of field-related audience will yield better results compared to an influencer with a massive following but unrelated audience.

3. Know your influencer’s audience

It’s important to know if your target audience and the influencer’s audience are related. Contacting someone with a lot of followers who would not be interested in your brand in the first place will only be a waste of time and money.  Your audience will react better if they are exposed to you by an influencer in the same field.

4. Seek out creative influencers

Instead of finding someone who will just post a picture of your product on their account, find someone who can create quality content. Mentioning you is great, but more often than not sponsored posts that look too advertorial tend to get ignored. Target those who are really interested in your field and will be happy to provide creative ways to collaborate.

5. Make sure you choose trustable influencers

In this digital age, not everyone feels secure with online transactions and online information in general. It’s important to make sure that your influencer’s content is reliable, accurate and trustworthy. This will make your brand and your product more appears more credible in the eyes of your target audience.

6. Create your own following

One thing that will make influencer more inclined to work with you besides money is more influence. In a sense, influencers are brands themselves. Exposure will not only boost their popularity, it will also make them seem more “legitimate”. Most influencers are happy to provide their services to companies that can provide good exposure to them through mentions on the company’s own social media.

7. Build a relationship with influencers

It’s important to create a connection with the influencer that surpasses the business side of your collaboration. Remember that in a way, influencers are customers as well. A great experience can make them advocates of your brand. This will make them more likely work with you again or even mention you in the future free of charge.
