With a new business, marketing budgets are always tight. You want to choose the right marketing strategies to fuel your growth and revenue; but let me tell you, there is no one magic bullet to effective marketing.

Here are 10 low cost marketing strategies to try for your new business. Remember, with everything you do for your marketing, to always measure and try to learn from each marketing strategy to continuously improve or change and tweak for the next round. It's a constant cycle of try something, measure it, see what worked, continue if it worked or change if it didn't.

1. Create compelling content

Compelling, evergreen and high-quality content will improve traffic to your website and generate quality leads; updating blogs on your site with relevant posts will keep the customers interested and showcase your expertise and knowledge.

You can also add useful infographics, images, and videos to deliver your message and enhance your online presence with good useful and relevant content to establish your status in the market.

Creating compelling content also gives you content for your social media marketing.

2. Pamper your customers

Focus on targeting a particular audience in your marketing campaigns. Reaching the right audience is critical for the best return on your marketing spend.

But don't forget your existing customers. Selling more products or services to your existing customers is more cost-effective than finding new ones. Nourish your relationship with your current consumers and pamper them in every way. Turn them into advocates and they will help bring more customers to you.

3. Work on developing your PR

Public relations can create breakthrough moments and play a vital role in building successful businesses. PR isn't just about sending out press releases it's about building relationships with key journalists that write about your sector and giving them interesting stories to publish.

Build a press list and keep it handy to send out information and new stories regularly. Always think what's the hook, what's the story, is it new, is it compelling.

4. Consider guerrilla marketing

Guerrilla marketing is when you use a non-traditional and captivating marketing strategy to win consumers' attention and build awareness of the company. Think different here. Think about what would capture attention. Think about what you have seen online that has captured your attention.

Using viral, buzz, and word-of-mouth marketing campaigns can get people’s attention, especially the younger generation.

  • Word-of-mouth marketing gives people a reason to talk about your services and products
  • Buzz marketing uses high-profile news to get people to talk about your brand
  • Viral marketing creates entertaining or informative messages that can be easily passed along via social channels.

5. Inbound marketing

If you want to build useful and long-lasting relationships with potential customers, then inbound marketing is a strategy you don't want to overlook. It is a powerful tool used to attract leads to your startup. The best way to do this is to publish free content and to offer free things like downloads, checklists, white papers, anything that can help build an email list (remember to be GDPR compliant!).

Then when you have your download or checklist or white paper created, use social media to share them and remember to have a call to action on your website.

6. Social media marketing

Social media marketing is one of the most low cost ways to establish an online presence and potentially attract target customers. But as with all of your marketing it needs to be planned carefully. Pick the social channels that reflect where your potential customers are spending time, and concentrate on one or two channels with great content that you share.

7. E-mail marketing

E-mail marketing helps you to generate more leads, improve sales, amplify conversion rates, and reduce marketing cost. A good way to grow your mailing list is to offer something like discount coupons or the free downloads I mentioned above for people as an incentive to subscribe to your e-mail list.

Then make sure your emails are relevant and timely for them. Don't over email them.

8. Consider a backlinks strategy

Can you work with other businesses to get a link back to your website? This is where they link to your website. The more high quality relevant backlinks your website, the better it does in search engine rankings. You could do this by offering to write a guest blog post or swapping blog posts if their website is related or can offer something to your customers and prospects.

9. Affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing can help amplify your business. This is where you get other people to recommend your products or services and in return you give them commission on sales made. You have to be able to provide them with trackable links that show that the sale came from them as well as a dashboard. There are some affordable affiliate marketing services or software that you can use to develop affiliates for your business if you want to go the route of owning your own affiliate platform.

Alternatively, look at becoming a brand on a third party affiliate platform such as Tradedoubler or Affiliate Window. Then other websites can decide to become an affiliate of your brand through that platform. The third party platform will take a fee but they also provide all the tools and help promote you to potential publishers.

10. Search Engine Optimization

SEO is an area of marketing that can be very powerful, and when you learn to leverage it, it can really bring traffic to your website. The main advice on this is that you check the Google Keyword Tool to see what people are searching on around topics that are relevant to your products and services. Then if you create content for your prospective customers that is relevant, engaging, insightful and brings them value, just make sure you are including some of those keywords.

This is great! I`ve been working on mostly inbound strategies and some link building digital wise, and I also tried promotional products as a regular marketing strategy.
